A modern semi-automatic Peugeot / Citroen will come with SensoDrive technology. Sensodrive is basically an electronically controlled manual gearbox. It will come fitted with an electronic clutch actuator, gearbox actuator and a gearbox ECU.
The Peugeot / Citroen range vehicles with SensoDrive technology often suffer transmission faults and most commonly the problems are within the electronic clutch actuator and / or gearbox actuator. Below we’ve listed some of the common failing symptoms we’ve seen these units suffer with.

A new clutch actuator alone will cost you £480 +Labour and may require coding / calibration. A new gearbox actuator alone will cost you £780 +Labour and may require coding / calibration. New replacement parts from dealers will come with a 12-month warranty. Second hand used parts will be a lot cheaper but come with limited warranty (typically 30-90 days) and may require reprogramming.

hi jason,
i have a c2 vtr 2007 and have been experiencing trouble with the gears. i get the 3 beeps and auto flashing and also gearbox fault on the display. i have had it into citroen for diagnostics and updates etc and they said they could find nothing wrong. all they did was update the engine ecu as there were no other updates needed. i am still having these problems and it always seems to happen if im stuck in traffic jams etc. my question is , can actuators overheat and temporily fail or could it be that my battery is below par and when the engine fan kicks in it is dropping the voltage to the actuators which then fail.have you any experience of this happening. i am sure that the battery on my car is the original one from new as it is a citroen one with a use by date of march 2008 which tells me it must be the original one. i have read that the sensodrive batteries should be changed at least every 3 or 4 years because it needs to be at full peak to ensure things run smoothly. i am changing the battery tomorrow and will see if this cures the problem, but just wanted to hear your thoughts on the matter as you must have come across these symptoms before and wondered if you advised customers that this could be a problem before actually doing anything with the actuators. sorry if its a bit long winded hope you are not confused with my question but obviously if i change the battery and still get the problems i was wondering in your experience what the problem could be. thanks very much

This could very well be a battery issue not supplying enough power when the fans kick in – if you have changed the battery I would be interested to know if this has cured the problem for you.
We do get some units in from customers that are failing intermittently and have been able to replicate the faults when testing them on our test bench so it is possible the actuator unit itself is faulty. Without seeing it and testing it we can’t say for sure and intermittent faults are always harder and take longer to spot but none the less we do get them in and have been able to repair them.

i have swapped the battery for a duracell advanced battery which has slightly more cca than the standard just so that when it does drop from its peak it should still have plenty power. the fault i have happens as i said mostly when i have been in heavy traffic on hot days. i have never had it happen on any morning whilst travelling to work. i have heard that the sensodrive is a very voltage sensitive system so i am hoping that i have cured it . i will wait till it happens again (or not) before i let you know. if you dont hear from me for a good few months then i will have had some good luck!! many thanks

I am the owner of Citroen C2 Furio (Automatic Sensodrive) 2004 which requires a clutch actuator replacement or so I am being told after Citroen’s diagnostic!
I was wondering if you could do this for me?! Citroen did upgraded the ECU software of the car recently and also they provided me with quote for the clutch replacement with a genuine part which unfortunately I can not afford.
Would you be able be able to find alternative new clutch actuator suitable for my vehicle and also replace it for me, please? Oh and of course how much is that going to be?

My Peugeot 1007 has been playing up and not going into reverse gear and jumping about a bit when going into 2nd gear, Sometimes shows ” – ” Sign Instead of Gears, and often shows snowflake icon.
I have had the problem diagnosed at the servicing garage as a problem with part no 2452C3
Does this sound right to you and Is this the same part that you referencing above and are able to repair?

My peugout 1007 petrol 05 reg keep coming up auto gear fault when I am going to pull away. Then it don’t move so I stop car then restart it. It drives ffine this has happened 3 Times now we’ll this morning I got RAC out as it happened and I have had enuff. I have two garages print outs of codes which I would like you to look at. Hello I never got your email. Since then I have had new battery the car run fine no faults for 10 days I drove from clacton on sea to elevdon forest fine and back then the battery went flat. So they put new alternator in it and since that I can’t use any electrical stuff lights, heating radio or fault comes up. The man had it on his lap top it come up low power to gear box. Then auto gear box fault and snow light sometimes it drives with it bleeping and just now would not drive for 2 mins then went fine on way home. Have you any ideas

I’ve resent the original email to you. From what you’ve told me, I believe there is a possible clutch/gearbox actuator fault but there is a power delivery failure which needs to be rectified first. Maybe the wrong alternator has been fitted or a faulty alternator (was it a copy part or genuine?), also check wiring and earth points.
